What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from February 2023. It sets out an improvement evaluation that ERO and the school agreed to carry out on writing, after the school found that progress and achievement in writing were fairly low overall and that some groups of learners were not moving forward enough.

ERO noted strengths the school could build on: well-developed systems for student wellbeing and resilience, including culturally responsive support, a board and leaders who know how priority learners are achieving and direct resources to help them, and closer teamwork in syndicates, backed by a specialist teacher, that is building a more consistent writing programme. The report also notes that a Ruru satellite class is hosted on site.

The school’s priorities from the report are to set clear, consistent expectations across the school for planning, teaching and assessing writing, to build stronger learning partnerships with parents and whānau, and to check how well its actions are lifting writing, especially for learners who need to make faster progress.
